Name
Rise of the Shadow Bank: Are they a risk to global economic stability?
Date & Time
Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM
Description

We’ve seen an exponential rise in shadow banks, with them now making up around half of global financial assets. So named because they provide similar services to banks without the equivalent regulation, these services are often unregulated – leading many central banks in the dark about how they’re performing at any given time. In this session we’ll explore:

- What tools could be used to address the risk posed by shadow banks
- The results of the Bank of England’s first system-wide stress test, tracking how financial institutions– including shadow banks – deal with shock.
- What risk could these institutions pose to both the UK and global economic stability.
